In the blazing heat on Thursday afternoon, the Griffins of Valor Leander started their inaugural season versus Founders Leander. On the opening defensive drive, Santiago Chaparro-Alfaro (8th) caught an interception in the endzone. The Griffins marched down the field, and Benjamin Hoover (8th) caught a touchdown pass from Alex Andrew (8th) to open the scoring 6-0. Towards the end of the first half, Chaparro-Alfaro caught another interception and returned it for a score, leading to a 13-0 halftime lead. The Griffins controlled the pace of the second half while playing tough defense, holding on to a 13-0 victory. The Griffins remained turnover-free on offense but forced a few on defense. The team plays again on September 14 against Founders Bastrop at Spike Frog in Cedar Park.
